Play: NFL FLAG-in-Schools — Get in the Game!

Topics:

  • Community Involvement
  • Physical Activity Participation

We joined a Flag Football league for schools around the valley. We held tryouts and created a team. We practice two times a week after school and play games on Monday evenings. Our team won first place in the first tournament. We have another tournament coming up this weekend. The students are learning about being good teammates and working together. We also have a spirit squad, a group of students who cheer on the teams as they play.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

We have a coach who is a parent of one of the players. He has knowledge of the game and helps teach the students plays and routes. Other parents have come to the games and bring snacks and encourage the players.

How do you plan to make this play last during the school year and beyond?

Many students are interested in being on the team now. We are hoping to continue playing in tournaments and scrimmages throughout the year.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Several teachers and even the principal came to the games. It is great to see support from the staff.
